WHAT IS THE UNESCO INTERNATIONAL DANCE COUNCIL (CID)?

It is a non-governmental organization founded in 1873 within UNESCO headquarters in Paris. It brings together international, national, and local organizations, as well as select individuals active in dance. It is the official partner of UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization. It reflects the principles of the United Nations and UNESCO and is open to all approaches to dance without prejudice to race, gender, religion, or social status.

What is UNESCO?

UNESCO stands for the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization. It is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is on a mission to build a culture of peace, the eradication of poverty, sustainable development, and intercultural dialogue through education, the sciences, culture, communication, and information.

How is CID governed?

It is governed democratically and has over 1100 institutional members and over 8000 individual members in 170 countries. It is a big community of dancers from all over the world with choreographers, dance educators, historians, administrators, and critics. It has prominent federations, associations, schools, and companies. Each year it adds a new member to its team and allows them to organize festivals, workshops, and competitions.

International Schooling has been an official Dance member of the International Dance Council (CID) since 2020. CID is an official umbrella organization for all forms of dance, all across the world.

The International Dance Council (CID) is also called the United Nations of Dance. It is the official umbrella organization for all forms of dance across the world. Its membership includes the most prominent federations, schools, companies, associations, and individuals in more than 170 countries currently.

The International Dance Council (CID), is an official partner of UNESCO that validates teaching by offering free of charge the International Certification of Dance Studies.

The CID congresses are the world’s largest gatherings of dance specialists. It gives the best
opportunity to showcase one’s work to a wide audience of not just practitioners, dance teachers, choreographers, and researchers, but also to global media, organizers, and suppliers.
