Course Summary

Join this influential adventure beyond language rules! This course builds on the foundation laid in the previous French courses to further enhance your language proficiency. You will deepen your understanding and mastery of grammar, vocabulary, and cultural nuances and advance your conversation skills, reading comprehension of complex texts, and write compositions with more sophisticated structures. You will be encouraged to engage actively with authentic materials, participate in discussions, and work towards proficiency in both formal and informal contexts of the French language. This course is your passport to linguistic expertise! This course provides elective credit.

MAJOR TOPICS AND CONCEPTS

SEGMENT 1 

Interpret information about family structure, food and activities, sharing emotions, and giving advice. Describe family structures in different cultures, the importance of family and traditions, and sociocultural influences on food choices. Use regular verbs in the present tense, future and near futures, adverbs, and expressions of quantity.  

Interpret information about contemporary living, walkable communities, professional work life, and new era workspaces. Describe elements of walkable communities, benefits and shortcomings of common workspace offices, and advantages and disadvantages of remote working. Use the conditional, adjectives, and irregular verbs in the present tense. 

Interpret information about travels in the past, new age travel, and cultural experiences while traveling. Describe how travel and trip planning was in the past, past and present travels, and cultural experiences while traveling. Use the passé composé, imparfait, direct and indirect object pronouns, transitive and intransitive verbs, and comparatives and superlatives. 

SEGMENT 2 

Interpret information about modern technology, social impacts of new technologies and cultural experiences while traveling. Describe the social impact of technologies, robotics, and the impacts of artificial intelligence, the evolution of portable listening devices, the role of modern influencers, and applications of artificial intelligence. Use the subjunctive with JEF expression and use alternatives to the subjunctive.  

Interpret information about global influence in the culinary world, global influence; fashion, cosmetics, and perfumes, and cultural exchange—le patrimoine—around the world. Use stress pronouns, conjunctions, and French grammar elements.
