Course Goals

• Identify the expectations placed on those who choose accounting as a career as well as the opportunities available.
• Analyze the role of accounting departments in organizations of different sizes and with different purposes.
• Apply the basic skills of an accountant to a variety of tasks, from creating balance sheets to ensuring that an organization’s financial reporting meets regulations.
• Distinguish among the various reports and statements an accountant must produce and the scenarios that call for each.
• Apply accounting skills to a range of routine tasks, from calculating payroll to preparing balance sheets.
• Analyze problems that are common to all organizations as well as problems that are context-specific, such as corporate accounting.
