Course Summary

We see digital art every day, and in MJ Digital Art & Design 1, not only will the students investigate digital art, but they will also learn how to create it themselves! In this course, they will explore the tools, basic concepts, and techniques artists use to create digital art. They will learn how to use computers, digital cameras, editing software, and more to create digital artworks and grow artistically as they evaluate and respond to their own work.

MAJOR TOPICS AND CONCEPTS

Semester 1 : 

  • Identifying digital art and explore how technology has shaped it
  • Recognizing how artists respect copyright laws and intellectual property
  • Identifying line and shape and the elements of art and practice creating them in a digital art software
  • Analyze the meaning or purpose of a work of art
  • Identifying file types
  • Exploring layers in a digital art software and use them in a digital image with shapes and lines
  • use the artistic process to create digital art, take photographs, and edit a photograph and a digital drawing
  • Demonstrating the use of line and shape in a digital image
  • Creating an artist statement to reflect on your work
  • Identifying texture and space and practice creating them in a digital art software
  • Analyzing the meaning or purpose of a work of art
  • Exploring how to take digital photographs
  • Experimenting with lighting, composition, texture, and space in a photograph
  • Reflecting on and apply feedback to one of your digital images
  • Identifying color and value and practice creating them in a digital software
  • Experimenting with editing digital photographs
  • Demonstrating the use of color and value in edited photographs

  • Identifying form and create it in a digital art software
  • Experimenting with digital drawing tools
  • Brainstorming ideas and plan for a digital drawing

  • Practicing creating movement in a digital art software
  • Experimenting with editing and adding to digital photographs
