This policy outlines the roles, responsibilities, and conditions for appointing an official guardian for students enrolled with International Schooling. It ensures that every student has appropriate supervision, support, and accountability throughout their academic journey.
2. Definition of a Guardian
A guardian is a responsible adult officially designated by the parent(s) or legal custodian to act on behalf of the student in matters related to education, communication, and well-being.
The guardian may be:
- A parent (mother or father)
- A legal custodian
- A relative (e.g., uncle, aunt, grandparent)
- A trusted adult (in special cases, subject to approval)
3. Eligibility Criteria for a Guardian
To be recognized as an official guardian by International Schooling, the individual must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Be legally authorized by the parent or legal custodian
- Possess a valid government-issued identification
- Be accessible via phone, email, and/or messaging platforms
- Demonstrate the ability to support the student academically and emotionally
- Agree to comply with all school policies and guidelines
4. Appointment of a Guardian
- The guardian must be formally declared at the time of student enrollment
- A Guardian Authorization Form must be submitted, signed by the parent/legal custodian
- Any change in guardian must be notified in writing and approved by the school
- The school reserves the right to verify the guardian’s identity and relationship
5. Roles and Responsibilities of the Guardian
The guardian plays a critical role in ensuring the student’s success in an online learning environment.
5.1 Academic Supervision
- Ensure the student attends scheduled live classes regularly
- Monitor completion of assignments, assessments, and projects
- Encourage a disciplined study routine
5.2 Communication with School
- Act as the primary point of contact between the school and the family
- Respond to communications from teachers, coordinators, or administration
- Attend parent-teacher meetings, demo sessions, or academic reviews when required
5.3 Technical & Learning Environment Support
Ensure the student has access to:
- A stable internet connection
- A suitable device (laptop/tablet)
- A quiet and safe learning environment
5.4 Behavioral & Well-being Support
- Promote respectful behavior during online classes
- Ensure the student follows school rules and code of conduct
- Support the student’s emotional well-being and motivation
6. Consent & Decision-Making Authority
The guardian is authorized to:
- Receive academic updates and reports
- Communicate with teachers and school staff
- Provide consent for routine academic matters
However, for critical decisions such as:
- Withdrawal
- Major academic changes
- Legal or financial matters
Parent/legal custodian approval is mandatory
7. Limitations of Guardian Authority
- The guardian cannot override official policies of International Schooling
- The guardian does not replace the legal rights of the parent
- The school may restrict guardian access if misuse or misconduct is observed
8. Change or Removal of Guardian
- Parents/legal custodians may request a change by submitting a written request
- The new guardian must meet all eligibility criteria
- The school reserves the right to:
- Reject a guardian if found unsuitable
- Request a change in guardian in the student’s best interest
9. School’s Role and Responsibility
International Schooling will:
- Maintain regular communication with the guardian
- Provide academic updates and support
- Ensure a safe and structured online learning environment
However:
- The school is not responsible for physical supervision of the student outside the virtual classroom.
10. Compliance
Failure of the guardian to fulfill responsibilities may result in:
- Academic disruption for the student
- Formal warnings
- Review of student enrollment status in extreme cases
11. Acceptance of Policy
By enrolling a student, the parent/legal custodian and appointed guardian:
- Acknowledge and accept this policy
- Agree to comply with all terms and conditions
- Commit to supporting the student’s educational journey
